CE Marking | French Restrictions 1 January 2023

French Packaging and Printing Ink Regulations

These documents have been published by the French authorities for a couple of years.

It relates to the fight against waste and the circular economy and affects all manufacturers as it forbids mineral oils for printing

As of January 1, 2025, it is forbidden to use mineral oils for printing intended for the public. For advertising prospectus letters and unsolicited catalogues aimed at commercial promotion, this prohibition applies from 1 January 2023.

So what are the mineral oils mentioned?

mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) with “1 to 7 aromatic rings” and

mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) “containing 16 to 35 carbon atoms”

These restrictions apply from January 1, 2023.

So what we are purposing is that manufacturers contact your printing suppliers and check with your packaging and ink used for items shipped into or produced in and for the French market regarding the presence of these substances. Also, we advise you to check your inventory remember numerous components, particularly those that contain plastics, are painted or coated or printed with inks and may contain Organic Compounds post-production
